Bell’s Palsy in Pregnancy

Bell’s palsy is a neurological disease which involves facial nerve and causes its inflammation.

Reactivation of herpes virus can lead to this disease.

The onset is abrupt and painful. 

Clinical symptoms are 

-Paralysis of facial muscles of affected side.

-inability to close eyelids of affected side 

-Loss of taste

It is unclear if pregnant state alters the course of disease. 

Treatment include 

-Physiotherapy 

-Oral steroids therapy 

-Protection of eye.
